If the official cover design for the Region 1 Serenity DVD (the original release, not the Collector's Edition) doesn't float your boat, or you want to give the Serenity DVD as a gift and you're weary of explaining, "Please, ignore the cover art. Serenity is not cheesy... it's really AWESOME!"... heh, then swap the cover out! On this very website are two print quality versions of a Serenity DVD alternate cover, classic and "llamafied", available for FREE download!
FILE INFO: The dpi is 200, and the file size is approximately 4.7 MB. I tried to balance file size with print resolution. I kept the resolution moderate, because a higher dpi would have meant a much bigger file, which might make it less accessible for folks with slower connections. The design has also been carefully measured to conform exactly to the size of the official cover. All images should wrap around the DVD case correctly.
Hopefully this file will print out well for everyone. Please note that unless your printer can manage full bleed, or nearly full bleed, you will need to get a longer paper size than regular letter. You can buy paper specifically made to print DVD covers, it is slightly longer and narrower than letter size. This is necessary in order to fully wrap around a standard DVD case. For best results, print the cover on photo quality paper. Gloss or Matte finish will work, but make sure to check your printer settings to get the best result.
The design of the official Serenity DVD cover, it has spawned numerous highly entertaining exchanges on various Firefly and Serenity message boards. Oh for the love of llamas, and that duck (not to mention the lasers, the Zombie horde, and who the heck is that Goth chick anyway?). Ah yes, a bemused comment from JustNick, that began on the weblog WHEDONesque, grew into the wacky llama legend with the fans. Then another zany exchange with "Flyhead" on a different Firefly/Serenity message board spurred me to create this "llamafied" version of the alt Serenity DVD cover.
So, in response to several requests, and testament that we flans know how to take a joke and run with it, here be a hi-res file for the cover featuring those delightful, delovely, three stomached, fluffy, soulful critters (with plenty of other llamafication revisions sprinkled throughout). Have fun...
If you haven't purchased or downloaded the shiniest TV soundtrack in the 'Verse yet, well what are you waiting for?! Use this link to go directly to FOX Music and get it!
The CD tray and label images are slightly larger than the actual needed area for the items. This is to allow some "bleed" over the edge and give a nice finished look. These images should fit on most CD printing paper. The tolerances on these sizes are tight, so the fit might be a little off. But I have used these exact templates to print CDs before and results were very good. You will need some type of program that can position these images so you can control where they print on a sheet of paper. There are different types of CD printer paper available that have precut inserts – But you'll have to make sure the images "fall" in the right spots. PRACTICE on some REGULAR PAPER before you use the GOOD STUFF! Have fun making your own custom Firefly Soundtrack jewel cases – the results will be worth it! Yer Art Companion, 11th Hour
